The David Bird Memorial Scholarship
The David Bird Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in 2004 in memory of David Bird, a 2001 Piedra Vista High School graduate. David Bird was a five-year member of the Piedra Vista Golf Team and was involved in golf in many aspects.
The Scholarship Committee seeks San Juan County seniors who demonstrate outstanding character, academics, community interest and financial need. Although not exclusive, the Scholarship Committee may preference applicants who have an association with the game of golf.
Scholarship awards are in the amount of $2,000.00 annually, renewable for one year. The Scholarship Committee shall determine the amounts and number of awards based on the availability of funds. Awards are sent directly to the chosen college or university, in two installments of $1,000.00 for the fall and spring semesters.
Eligibility
- Graduating San Juan County seniors with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Preference-an interest in golf (played high school golf, intends to play college golf, employed in the golf industry, etc.)
Requirements
Application must be completed in full and received by the Scholarship Committee no later than April 10, 2026.

Restrictions
The following restrictions will apply to the scholarship recipients:
The recipient must attend an institution of higher learning, two or four-year college or university, branch college, vocational school, or other like institution.
The recipient must enroll on a full-time basis and attend the first fall semester immediately following selection for the scholarship award.
Documentation and Disbursement Requirements:
- Fall Semester (Due August 15):
Proof of full-time enrollment for the fall semester must be submitted no later than August 15. Upon receipt of this documentation, one-half of the total scholarship award ($1,000) will be released. - Spring Semester (Due January 15):
A transcript and proof of full-time enrollment (class schedule) for the spring semester must be submitted via email no later than January 15. Upon receipt of the required documentation, the remaining $1,000 will be awarded.
Exceptions may be granted in cases of military service and hardships agreed upon between the recipient and the Scholarship Committee. The recipient shall complete 12 credit hours and maintain a 2.5 average during the first semester to be eligible for the remaining $1,000.00.
The scholarship is subject to cancellation by the Scholarship Committee should the recipient fail to meet these requirements and qualifications.
