Scott Bird

Scott Bird is a retired banker who started golfing at age 12. In his childhood, golf was integral to building relationships with peers and adults, which ultimately led to a successful career and networks with many helpful people. He chose to serve as a board member because First Tee is one of his favorite non-profits and he wanted to contribute to help the program continue its success. He has enjoyed the tournaments involving a First Tee student mixed with adults and strategic planning for the organization.

Fun fact: Mr. Bird likes wearing shirts with First Tee logos, as it almost always leads to a conversation about the organization.

Paul Deshayes

Paul Deshayes is the Market President for Vectra Bank Colorado in Cortez and has been in the banking industry for 20+ years.  He is a graduate of Fort Lewis College in Durango with a degree in Business Administration. He currently lives in Cortez with his better half Joyce and their dog Zeus. He is an avid golfer, having played for the last 35+ years. He got involved in the First Tee because he thinks golf is a great sport and something that can be a lifelong pleasure to play.  He likes to see the kids picking it up at a young age, knowing that they will get many years of enjoyment out of it. He believes the program helps give them confidence and builds character.

Fun fact: Mr. Deshayes is originally from Greeley, Colorado and has lived in the Four Corners area for 40 years, with time spent time in Durango, Mancos, Cortez and Farmington.

Michael Goen

Michael Goen is a retired Environmental Services Manager for PNM at the San Juan Generating Station. He is also a part-time golf shop assistant at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango. Born in Albuquerque, he is a N.M.S.U. graduate. He has two sons with his wife, Judy. He first got involved in the First Tee because Pat Swope, the First Tee Coach in Aztec, asked him to help. Having worked with Pat with Aztec High Golf Team, he was curious as to the First Tee’s approach not only to golf but the life lessons it instills in our youth. His favorite part of serving with the First Tee continues to be working with the kids.

Fun fact: Mr. Goen loves dogs and became a certified dog trainer. He and his wife had a dog training business for a while.

Ronald Calcote

Dr. Ronald Calcote has been a Family Physician with Farmington Family Practice since 1990. He got involved with the First Tee because he enjoyed interacting with kids, and strongly believes in what the 9 Core Values can provide to anyone for a lifetime. His favorite part of being a board member is giving the kids of the Four Corners somewhere to go and providing them with life skills.

Fun fact: Dr. Calcote enjoys good wine and good conversation.
